Conveniently located on the border of the City Centre and the West End, Ian and Kristiina employ a large range of teaching materials and methods in their practice, tailoring their approach to suit the different needs and goals of each individual. Lessons can cover anything from simple chordal accompaniment to advanced classical guitar repertoire and can also be directed at specific goals such as preparing for the ABRSM, Trinity examinations. Ian can provide guitar tuition in various styles (enquire for details).
The practice also welcomes small groups of students (parents wanting to learn with their children or several children wanting to learn together) in which case the cost of the lesson could be shared by the participants. In these cases it is best to concentrate on chordal accompaniment and simple ensemble repertoire, leaving open the option of receiving some one-to-one lessons later on.
Lessons generally last for one hour with younger children benefiting most from lessons of 30-45 min in duration. However, these are only general guidelines and can be altered to suit each individual.
The practice employs a block booking system, meaning that the student will pay for a block of 4 lessons in advance. There is an exception for new students who can pay for one lesson before commiting to a full block. A full refund (or free-of-charge rescheduling) for a lesson is issued if the student gives at least 24h prior notice.
Ian and Kristiina can provide assistance with selecting and purchasing an instrument (requiring a subscription for at least one paid lesson). This could including both over the phone advice and visiting a music shop.
